Connect 2018 : Get Equipped
This set of 4 evening courses is primarily aimed to serve Christians with work experience who want to deepen their ability to understand, teach and live out the message of the Bible. Please note that these courses are not as extensive as our day-time Auckland Park or Soweto classes.
The courses are offered one per term, and run for 6 Monday evenings each. Broadly speaking, most evenings are divided into two sections: the first section deals with how we understand the Bible and the second section is how we apply the Bible to all of life. You can register for as few or as many courses as you like.
2018 Course Dates & Times
18:30 for 18:45 until 21:00
Course 1: God's Story, My Story
This course looks at how the whole Bible proclaims one large story. We also explore what this story means for how we understand and navigate the world in which we live. This will include a Bible overview, a Biblical worldview foundation, a look at various Christian approaches to the Bible and to culture, and what it means to be spiritual in the "real world".
Course 2: Love God, Love Neighbour
Jesus summarises the scriptures in relational terms: love God, love neighbour (Mt.22:37-40). What can this practically look like at home, in church, at the workplace and in wider society? This course traces how this relational theme runs through the whole Bible and God's entire kingdom, and offers a Bible-based model to help us understand and improve all our relationships.
Course 3: Apologetics 2.0
Apologetics is about so much more than presenting proofs for the existence of God. It is about offering meaningful answers to the deep head & heart questions our friends or colleagues have, in a way that makes sense to them, and in a way that builds relationship. This course aims to help us build our skills and confidence for such conversations.
Course 4: A Book of the Bible brought to Life
This course looks at how we come to understand and apply a book of the Bible - faithful to the text, and relevant to life. With ample opportunity to practice, the course offers a method for translating a selected passage of scripture into life application, a sermon or a Bible Study. There is a particular emphasis on making the message "real" and practical in today's context.
